entrap/entwine

Entrap/Entwine explores the nature of plastics within the environment. Ninety percent of the plastic produced in the world today is not recycled and becomes a burden to our natural environment. It is either burnt, added to ever-growing landfill or remains unwelcome in our oceans, forests and urban landscapes.

Discarded bale netting and food container rims (polyethylene and polypropylene) are transformed through a meditative and rhythmic process of binding to reference naturally occurring cocoon shapes, to mirror and integrate with the natural world. The artwork aims to engage the viewer in witnessing the beauty and intrigue of the structure, then to contemplate the plastics our society discards. Entrap/Entwine is a sinister physical offering.
